It's not just about boats.
If we haven’t had the chance to meet yet, my name is Dave Briggs, and I’m proud to carry forward my family’s legacy as the owner of Wayzata Marine on Lake Minnetonka. Since opening our doors in April 1967, Wayzata Marine has been built on one simple belief: boating is about family, relationships, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
My parents founded the business in April 1967 with a vision of building more than just a dealership. They believed in treating customers the right way, standing behind every boat we sell, and becoming a trusted part of the Lake Minnetonka community. Through long hours, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to service, they built a reputation centered on integrity and long-term relationships — not just transactions. Many of the families who purchased boats from them decades ago are still part of our community today.

Twenty-five years ago, my wife Dava and I, had the opportunity to purchase Wayzata Marine and continue what my parents started. That transition wasn’t just a business decision — it was a commitment to protect and build upon the foundation they worked so hard to establish. For the past 25 years, I’ve been focused on honoring their principles while evolving the dealership to meet the needs of today’s boaters.
The lessons my parents taught me still guide us today: take care of people, stand behind your product, and think long term. Boating isn’t just about horsepower or features — it’s about sunset cruises, teaching your kids to water ski & surf, anchoring out with friends, and creating traditions that span generations. Our job is to make sure those experiences are supported by reliable boats and dependable service.
Today, Wayzata Marine remains committed to the same core values that defined us in 1967 — exceptional customer service, knowledgeable guidance specific to Lake Minnetonka, and full-service support including maintenance, winterization, and storage to make ownership simple and enjoyable.
This blog marks the beginning of a new chapter. In the months ahead, I’ll be sharing insights about the boating market, tips for maximizing your time on Lake Minnetonka, updates from our dealership, and reflections from running a family-owned marine business that has proudly served this community for nearly six decades.
To the families who trusted my parents and have supported me over the past 25 years — thank you. Your loyalty means everything. And if you’re new to Wayzata Marine, I invite you to stop in, introduce yourself, and become part of the next generation of our story.
For our family, this isn’t just a business. It’s a legacy — and we’re proud to continue it.
